analysing media language in magazines
Media language is made of visual, written and technical elements. These are all very carefully selected to apeal to thier audience but also to fit in with the context. There is a Generic formula, this is the combination of images, titels and content. An example would be a mans magazine having the formula for gadegets or cars.
some people will buy a magazine for the production infomation and avaliblity in the magazine, this is space that magazines have to sell for advertising in order to make a profit out of thier magazine.
There is a lot of research that goes in to making a magazine successful, this can include surveys to collect demongraphic data such as age and gender.
They wil also use questionaires to gather lifestyle profiles about leisure activities and and buying habits of thier target audience.
A profile is then made of the typical people who will read these magazines. Len Ang (1991) calls these profiles 'imaginary entities' as they are more like protypes than real people.
